Pole suspected of spying for Belarus

Polish security services have arrested a Polish citizen on suspicions of espionage for Belarusian intelligence, a spokesman for the services announced on Wednesday. Stanislaw Zaryn said the man was seized by officers of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) and has been detained for three months pending inquiries into the case. He told a press conference that the man had served in the communist-era militia (police), including its notorious ZOMO riot unit, since 1981, and later in the Polish police, ending his service in 2001 in the rank of a border guard lieutenant.
