Poland's ruling United Right in talks on new coalition agreement

July 28th, 2020

The leaders of three parties making up the United Right camp are in the initial stage of drafting a new coalition agreement. The scope of the government reshuffle will be known only after sides reach an agreement, according to PAP sources. Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of Law and Justice (PiS), the backbone of the United Right party, said in mid-July that "there will certainly be personnel changes" and that the structure of the government will also change. At that time, Kaczynski declared that the prime minister would stay. Changes in the composition of the cabinet were discussed by the PiS leadership last Friday. A day earlier, head of the PiS caucus and Deputy Sejm (lower house) Speaker Ryszard Terlecki said the number of ministries is to be reduced and that each of the PiS coalition partners would receive only one ministry.
