Deputy Finance Minister Piotr Walczak has been named new chief of the National Tax Administration (KAS), a tax collection body with enforcement powers. Walczak was appointed by KAS's first chief and currently the finance minister, Marian Banas. KAS was established in 2017 by the ruling party Law and Justice (PiS) to improve tax collection, which has been a priority for the conservative government. Walczak had been KAS deputy head since March 2017 and has been working in tax and customs administration since 1997.
