The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that Poland must act quickly to resolve problems around its National Council of the Judiciary (KRS). The court was responding to a complaint filed against Poland by two Polish judges who had applied for posts but had failed to get recommendations from the KRS. They also took their case to the Supreme Court, which dismissed the appeals. The two judges claim that the Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs Chamber, and the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court, which had dealt with their appeals, were not impartial or independent since they were made up of judges recommended by the KRS.
