Poland had no right to refuse refugee relocation - CJEU advocate general

October 31st, 2019

Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary have broken a European Union law by not accepting refugees under an EU relocation scheme, according to an opinion issued on Thursday by an advocate general of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). Advocate General Eleanor Sharpston wrote that "the Court should rule that, by refusing to comply with the provisional and time-limited mechanism for the mandatory relocation of applicants for international protection, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic have failed to fulfil their obligations under EU law."
