Arrangements from the December 2019 NATO summit in London for Poland's new defence plans improving the security of Poland and the alliance's eastern flank, are now technically possible, as Poland has been given the go-ahead to implement them, a source said. In December, NATO members agreed to update defence plans for Poland and the Baltic states despite earlier threats by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he would block the move if NATO did not support Tukey's fight against Kurdish YPG militias in Syria.
