PM says Poland is for EU treaties, against rule-of-law mechanism

November 23rd, 2020

Mateusz Morawiecki, Poland's prime minister, has said Poland says a "loud yes" to EU membership but a "loud no to punative mechanisms" Morawiecki's statements, made on Facebook on Monday, after Poland and Hungary declared their veto of the next EU budget because it included a mechanism linking funding with respect for the rule of law. "We are for observing European treaties. But it needs to be said clearly that nobody will force us to carry out someone else's plans," Morawiecki wrote on Facebook.
