Pellegrini: Any changes to constitution need careful consideration

The Slovak constitution is built upon good foundations and any amendments to it must be embraced only after careful consideration, House vice-chair and leader of the fledgling Voice-SD party Peter Pellegrini said on Constitution Day on Tuesday. Pellegrini added that commemoration of Constitution Day has its significance and not even the opposition far-right LSNS party wished to scrap it. LSNS, however, does not view the current provisions of the constitution as sufficient. Its spokesman Ondrej Durica pointed out that the party had already submitted several amendment proposals, such as, for instance, the reduction of the number of lawmakers from 150 to 100 and the reform of the institution of the referendum.
