October 28th, 2019
The emergence of Czechoslovakia gave Slovakia a historic chance for independence, Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini said on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia. "Marking October 28, 1918 isn't a relic of the olden days or even a celebration of 'czechoslovakism'," the prime minister said on social media. "It's a milestone that brought Slovaks historically closer to their own democratic, sovereign and internationally recognised country." Pellegrini noted that Slovakia acquired its borders for the first time within the common state. "It was not always an ideal and harmonious coexistence, but at that time the common state was certainly the best solution for the two nations," he said.
