A freshwater pearl mussel breeding facility has started operating near the Czech-German border area, as part of a cross-border project aimed to prevent further shrinking of therare mussel population, Milos Holub, from the Czech Nature Conservation Agency, told CTK. The project is a culmination of long-lasting cooperation between Czech and German environmentalists, he said, adding that on the Czech side, the efforts to save the pearl mussel started 17 years ago.
