Parliament moves vote on new oil tax to Wednesday

May 24th, 2022

Parliament has postponed the vote on taxing extraordinary incomes from Russian oil. Originally, MPs were to vote on advancing the respective bill to its second reading at 11am on Tuesday, but they'll vote on it at 11am on Wednesday instead. In line with the bill, refiner Slovnaft should pay a special tax on the price advantage that processing Russian oil provides to it, according to a bill on taxing a benefit obtained as a result of the special situation on the oil market. Russian oil has been significantly cheaper than Brent oil in recent months, and the state will use this benefit to acquire additional revenues for the state budget.
