Okamura ordered to apologise for migrant-related comments on MEPs

February 5th, 2021

Tomio Okamura, the opposition Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) leader and a deputy head of the Czech Chamber of Deputies, has to apologise to MEP Tomas Zdechovsky and former MEP Pavel Svoboda for making untrue migrant-related comments on them, a Prague district court has ruled. Okamura should apologise to Zdechovsky and Svoboda (both Czech Christian Democrats, KDU-CSL) in public for having said that they had voted in the EP for the EU to impose sanctions on the Czech Republic over its refusal to take in migrants. The ruling is not binding. Okamura insists that his statement was true and he is going to appeal the verdict.
