The number of hospital admissions in 2021 was the lowest in the past 20 years, according to statistics by the National Health Information Centre. In total, state health-care facilities recorded 942,376 admissions last year, with the average stay lasting 6.5 days. Those requiring the longest treatment were patients with mental and behavioural disorders, while patients suffering from eye illnesses were released most rapidly. The most common reasons for admissions were cardiovascular diseases (14.6 percent), cancer (10.2 percent) and respiratory diseases (9.8 percent). The largest proportion of these patients consisted of people aged 55-74 (34.1 percent).
