No spitzenkandidat should head EC - Czech PM Babis

June 24th, 2019

It is important that none of the "spitzenkandidate" received the majority support for the post of new head of the European Commission (CE) last week, Prime Minister Andrej Babis said at the opening of the Conference of Economic Diplomats today. "It is important that the spitzenkandidate, some of whom dislike the V4 (Visegrad Four, composed of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland), or our territory, did not succeed. . It is vital for the Czech Republic and the V4 that the next EC head should not intervene in and comment on politics. Instead, the person should mainly implement the conclusions of the European Council," Babis said.
