Mining gradually resuming in Poland region hit hard by Covid-19

May 19th, 2020

The total number of miners with confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Poland reached 2,683 on Tuesday, and only one out of five Polish mines, where operations were shut down, has gradually begun working. Coal companies are still receiving the results of large-scale coronavirus tests conducted on mine workers, who were the largest source of infections in Silesia, southern Poland. The largest increase in confirmed coronavirus cases, from 543 on Monday morning to 851 on Tuesday, occurred at Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa (JSW Group) coal mining company, the largest producer of high-quality hard coking coal. The largest outbreak was reported at the Pniowek mine, in Pawlowice, southern Poland.
