A senior Polish security official has said that thousands of people camped on the Belarusian side of the border with Poland are not refugees but migrants who had "paid a lot to be smuggled into the EU". Poland and the Baltic States claim that the Belarusians have channelled them there in order to create a migration crisis that can destabilise the EU. "We are not dealing with a migration crisis, but with a political operation against Poland," Stanislaw Zaryn, the director of Poland's National Security Department, wrote on Twitter on Friday.
