Matovic: Ministry not to approve unjustified expenditure

September 9th, 2021

The Slovak Finance Ministry currently records requests put forth by ministries to bolster their expenditure in 2022 by billions of euros, Finance Minister Igor Matovic said on Wednesday. Matovic said that he wanted to hear out the requests first, but added that he would not give the thumbs-up to more spending without proper justification. "The requests that they come up with are ogreish," said Matovic, adding that only the last two ministries, which went unnamed, requested a hike in 2022 expenditure by 640 million and 470 million, respectively. According to Matovic, the ministries should also propose areas where they plan to save money.
