The first step that Slovakia made in the fight against corruption was the introduction of independent elections to choose the Police Corps president, national police chief Milan Lucansky said on Friday in reaction to the latest Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index 2019. Slovakia fell by two places in the ranking to 59th place. The national police chief is still appointed by the interior minister but is chosen via a selection process, and the choice must be approved by the parliamentary defence and security committee.
