Lower house approves coal subsidies to households

August 5th, 2022

The Sejm, lower house of parliament, has approved a bill envisaging a one-off allowance to coal purchases for homes with coal-fired stoves. Coal prices on global markets soared when the world's economies started to emerge from the slowdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic and spiked when Russia invaded Ukraine in late February 2022. The PLN 3,000 (EUR 638) subsidy will be paid out to each home with a coal-fired stove registered as the primary source of heating.
