Slovakia has contributed to formulating two strong declarations of the EU towards Turkey, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak (a Smer-SD nominee) stated on Monday after the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) session. The first point on the council's agenda was a discussion on Syria, with the participation of the UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen. The EU foreign affairs ministers called on Turkey to halt its military operations in north-eastern Syria and at the same time committed themselves to adopt strong national opinions on export of weapons to Turkey.
