Krompachy town protests against local hospital being transformed

The town of Krompachy in Kosice region, as well as local government bodies in the region, stated at a press conference on Tuesday that they disagree with Krompachy hospital being turned into a community hospital in line with the Health Ministry-sponsored reform of the hospital network, claiming that the change would bring about an overall change for the worse in the whole region. "If this hospital could serve for roughly 3,000 to 4,000 people at the beginning of the 19th century, why shouldnt it be allowed to do the same now when its needed by the 8,000 inhabitants of Krompachy and the further 50,000 people from its surroundings?," asked Krompachy mayor Iveta Rusinova, adding that the move is perceived as a great injustice against locals.
