House Speaker Laszlo Kover has written a letter to speakers of the European Union's current and incoming rotating presidents asking their support in thwarting an amendment to the bloc's July agreement which would "facilitate political blackmail against some member states". In his letter, released to MTI on Friday, Kover insisted that "a covert modification of the Lisbon Treaty" would create opportunities for such "political blackmail under cover of the rule of law". Kover argued that the Lisbon Treaty has stipulations concerning rule of law procedures and "any new procedure could only be included through amending the treaty with the approval of all member states and their parliaments".
