Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korcok on Monday took part in an informal meeting with his European Union counterparts focused on the situation in Afghanistan, which took place on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The main task of the EU and the entire international community, headed by the UN, is to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Afganistan, where almost half of the population is suffering from a lack of basic food, he said. "We expect the Taliban to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid for the most vulnerable groups of people," said Korcok. In addition to humanitarian aid, the ministers addressed the need to respect human rights in Afghanistan. Korcok said in this regard that the EU will assess the Taliban's moves in these terms based on its actions, not its announcements.
