Jicin Jewish cemetery plaque vandalised

January 6th, 2020

The police have launched an investigation into the case of a plaque marking the site with a Jewish cemetery in Jicin, which an unknown perpetrator has shot through, local police spokesman Ales Brendl told CTK. The police are gathering information in order to decide whether to qualify the case as vandalism or an anti-Semitic attack. The defaced plaque bore the Czech/English inscription "Zidovsky hrbitov Jewish Cemetery". The police, as well as Jan Kindermann from the Basevi society, which administers the cemetery, are of the view that the shooting was vandalism, rather than religiously motivated.
