Hungary's public media rejects press accusations over Eurovision

November 28th, 2019

Hungary's public service media organisation firmly rejects "outrageous and unacceptable statements" published in the Hungarian and international media concerning the decision not to take part in next year's Eurovision Song Contest, public media foundation MTVA said, referring to articles in a number of Hungarian and foreign media outlets alleging that the decision not to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest was linked to the event being associated with the LGBTQ community. In its response, the foundation said that "those articles in the press referring to sexual orientation violate human dignity, the ethical norms of journalism, as well as the rule of law". "A decision was made on professional grounds to directly foster talented Hungarian musicians in creating value-generating productions next year instead of launching the Eurovision Song Contest. We want to make clear that we do not take the sexual orientation of anyone in any production or event into consideration,"
