Hungarian monument damaged during Warsaw protests restored

November 2nd, 2020

The monument dedicated to the Hungarian soldiers who took part in the anti-Nazi uprising in Warsaw has been restored after being damaged during recent anti-abortion protests in the Polish capital, the Hungarian embassy in Warsaw said on Monday. The embassy said in a statement that there was no discernable connection between what the monument which stands near the Polish Parliament buildings symbolises and the imagery that was daubed on it. The embassy has thanked a volunteer who tried to remove the graffiti as well as the Polish National Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) for clearing the monument.
