Prime Minister Eduard Heger confirmed on Wednesday that he had initiated the secret meeting between top state representatives and the Slovak Intelligence Service on May 17, saying he will do it again, even with a different roster, if need be. "I can assure the public that [the government] deals with problems," Heger said, when asked by journalists whether the secret meeting concerned serious matters and whether people should be concerned about possible state tampering with investigations into criminal cases. "Yes, the public can sleep peacefully." The premier said that he can guarantee that the rule of law functions in this vein.
