Police chief Stefan Hamran has rejected criticism from opposition politicians Denisa Sakova (Voice-SD) and Robert Fico (Smer-SD), pointing to growing public trust in the police. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Hamran cited the latest survey conducted by the AKO agency, which showed that 62 percent of the public trust the police, a significant uptick since 2013, when public trust stood in the neighbourhood of 40 percent. According to Hamran, Fico has been "systematically disparaging" the work of police, casting aspersions on ongoing investigations and the expertise of investigators and prosecutors of the Special Prosecutor's Office.
