All schools in Slovakia opened on Thursday, Education, Science, Research and Sports Minister Branislav Groehling told a press conference at a model school in Bratislava. According to the education minister, more than 706,000 pupils will attend primary and secondary schools this year. Over 65,000 of them will be first-year students, up by around 10,000 when compared to the previous school year. The opening of the new 2021/2022 school year was also attended by Prime Minister Eduard Heger. In his speech, he thanked parents, students and teachers for overcoming the past school year. He pointed out that people have never been as happy about the beginning of the new school year as they are now. He stressed that education was a priority for the government.
