The government has decided to launch a programme worth 50 billion forints (EUR 141m) to assist development of domestic health production capacities, the finance ministry said in a statement on Tuesday. Being self-sustaining in terms of producing protective gear is in the country's interest, the statement quoted Finance Minister Mihaly Varga as saying. Without domestic production the country could find itself in a vulnerable position once global supply chains are interrupted, Varga said. He added that the government has already entered into negotiations with companies that could develop the necessary capacities.
