Forestry agenda won't be moved to environment ministry

September 25th, 2019

Slovakia's forestry agenda will not be transferred to the Environment Ministry as lawmakers did not approve on Wednesday a proposed amendment to the Act on the Organisation of Government Activities and the Organisation of the Central State Administration which was submitted by MPs from the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) caucus. With their proposal they wanted to move the forestry agenda to the Environment Ministry and reach a social agreement in the area of forest management. They argue that care for forests has gone out of state control and pointed to impending sanctions by the European Commission for insufficient nature protection.
