The Environment Ministry claims that it advocated a zero quota for wolf hunting within the working group and still holds the opinion that the wolf population helps reduce the risk of spreading of African swine fever virus (ASFV) among wild boars, spokesman Tomas Ferencak said in response to an open letter of eco-activists regarding the wolf and its impact on the spread of ASFV. NGOs call for a halt to wolf hunting and a zero quota for hunting in the upcoming hunting season.
