Detainee assaults police officer in attempt to break free, now faces five years in prison

A 33-year-old man from Nova Dubnica in Trencin region is facing charges of assaulting a public official after he attacked a police officer in a detention cell, the police reported on Facebook on Thursday. The man was in detention on suspicion of having committed the offence of damaging someone else's property. According to the police, he started damaging the cell furnishings, which compelled a police officer to step inside the cell and tell him to calm down. The man refused to oblige, however, and decided to escape using force against the officer.
