Defence Ministry presents high decorations to resistance fighters

Czech Defence Minister Jana Cernochova presented high decorations to some 20 personalities in total, including WWII resistance fighters, soldiers and people who helped promote the military and its traditions, at the Defence Ministry today. The awards were traditionally given on the occasion of the approaching Victory Day, May 8. The Czech Republic has many heroes who must never be forgotten, Cernochova said. "Those who contributed to our country and were fighting for its freedom and democracy deserve our deep respect," she said, mentioning in particular anti-Nazi resistance fighters.
