Czechia hit by disastrous floods in August 2002

August 11th, 2022

More than one third of the Czech Republic was hit by record-breaking floods this August, killing 17 people so far and cause damage worth 73 billion crowns (EUR 3.0bn). The worst-hit areas were Bohemia and Moravia. Prague, Plzen, Karlovy Vary and Usti were among the cities it hardest. The floods hit ten out of the country's 14 regions. State of emergency was declared in six regions, lasting until the end of August 2002.
