Czech welfare budget to get 140 million crowns this year, says ministry

The Czech government will provide an extra 140 million crowns this year for social services, Labour Ministry spokeswoman Viktorie Plivova said on Thursday, adding that the Finance Ministry has approved the sum. Earlier this year the organisations looking after the disabled, the elderly and other people in need warned that the provision of some 200 services would be threatened over the lack of funding, which would afflict some 25,000 clients, while 1400 people might lose work.
