Czech university to run polar station even without state subsidy

The South Bohemian University (JCU) will continue operating its polar station in the Svalbard despite the Education Ministry's refusal to finance it in the years to come, JCU spokesman Stepan Kudej said today, adding that the project will remain unrestricted. On the islands in the Artic Ocean, the Czech scientists do research of polar ecosystems. Apart from them, several dozens of students from the JCU's Faculty of Science work in the Centre of Polar Ecology every year.
