Czech trains collided due to one's premature departure from station

July 8th, 2020

One of the passenger trains involved in a fatal head-on collision on Tuesday departed from the Pernink station prematurely without waiting until the arrival of the other train coming from the opposite direction, Czech Railway Inspection (DI) head Jan Kucera said. The recorded communication between the two engine drivers and a traffic controller shows that the train going from Johanngeorgenstadt, Saxony, to the Czech town Karlovy Vary was supposed to wait at the station, but failed to do so, Kucera told Czech Radio.
