Czech top court upholds verdict in online hate speech case

January 4th, 2022

The Czech Constitutional Court (US) has rejected a complaint filed by the man who was given a 16-month prison sentence suspended for three years for his online hate comments on a photo of first-graders, comprising mostly Roma and Arab children, from a primary school in Teplice, north Bohemia. Hateful online rhetoric must be suppressed in democratic society and in serious cases also by the legal way, the US has ruled in a resolution accessible in its online database. In 2019, the local daily Denik released the picture of the children in its online edition as part of a photographic series of first-graders from various local schools.
