The Czech opposition said they have long been pointing to poor justification and discriminatory character of the government's anti-epidemic measures in reaction to the Constitutional Court (US) cancelling some restrictions on retail and services on Monday over lacking justification. For instance, the court contested the selection of shops that were allowed to remain open amid the nationwide closure of shops. When introducing the restrictions, the government did not explain why the closure concerns some businesses while others enjoy an exception, the US said. Civic Democrat (ODS) chairman Petr Fiala wrote on social media that he had been calling for data-based and justified measures for almost a year. "This was one of the reasons why we did not back the [government-proposed] never-ending extension of the state of national emergency. The government simply cannot do whatever it wants, even amid the pandemic. The US confirmed we were right," he wrote.
