Czech Catholic priest and theologian Tomas Halik will receive the annual Saint George Medal in Poland for the fight against evil and persistent effort to do good in public life, the director of the Czech Christian Academy, Ilona Trnkova, told journalists on Thursday. Halik will be awarded the prize in Krakow on Saturday. In the past, it was bestowed on former president Vaclav Havel, Polish dissident Adam Michnik, former prime minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki, philosopher Leszek Kolakowski and astronomer Michal Heller.
