October 27th, 2021
The salaries of top politicians should rise by some 6 percent next year as the Senate, the upper house of Czech parliament, rejected their five-year freezing, proposed by the outgoing minority government of ANO and the Social Democrats (CSSD), on Wednesday. Senators called the amendment a populist pre-election gesture and pointed to the surging salaries after 2026. The new lower house that emerged from the October 8-9 general election cannot outvote the Senate decision.
