Czech Senate approves tougher conditions on aid for Ukrainian refugees

June 15th, 2022

The Senate, upper house of the Czech parliament, approved almost univocally on Wednesday that rules on the financial aid for Ukrainian refugees will toughen in order to prevent benefit tourism and the legislation has been forwarded to President Milos Zeman. Seventy-one out of the 74 senators present supported the amendment, while the rest abstained from the vote. The amendment dubbed 'lex Ukraine' reckons that the refugees who enjoy free accommodation, food and basic hygiene items will not receive the 5,000-crown humanitarian aid.
