Czech Republic reports biggest daily rise in Covid cases since mid-June

The Czech Republic registered 164 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday, the highest daily increase in cases since mid-June and 70 more than a week ago, with the reproduction number R further rising to almost 1.3, the highest figure since early January, data from the health ministry show. R represents the average number of those who catch the virus from one infected person. Experts say that Delta variant, a more contagious mutation of the coronavirus, is behind the recent new acceleration of the epidemic.
