Czech Republic pension reform proposes higher costs for entrepreneurs

February 28th, 2020

All variants of the pension reform debated by the Czech just pensions commission on Friday introduce higher payments for entrepreneurs, increasing their insurance costs from 50 percent to 75 percent of the assessment base, the commission's chairwoman Danuse Nerudova has said. "We also debated if such a change should be introduced in one jump or if it should be somehow divided into gradual phases," Nerudova said, adding that even the European Commission points out that Czech entrepreneurs' assessment base for social payments is rather low. Nerudova also noted that the just pensions commission is aware of how sensitive the issue is and that there are many opinions on it without any consensus in place.
