Czech Republic logs biggest daily rise in Covid cases since mid-December

January 12th, 2022

The Czech Republic registered 12,366 new Covid cases on Tuesday, a 20 percent increase week-on-week and the highest daily number since mid-December, data from the health ministry show. The weekly incidence rate rose by 20 to 440 per 100,000 people but the number of hospitalisations fell further to 2,216. On Monday, the daily number of new cases dropped, after a seven-day rise, but experts did not expect this to be a change in the trend. The National Health Institute (SZU) announced that Omicron, the more contagious variant of coronavirus, was the dominant strain among the new cases.
