Czech Republic coronavirus infections reach 1.7 million

Over 1.7 million people have contracted the novel coronavirus in the Czech Republic since the outbreak of the epidemic in March 2020 and while the spread of the virus soared from last September, in the autumn and in winter 2021, the epidemic weakened significantly this spring, data from the health ministry show. Last September, more than 10,000 newly infected people were reported a day and some days saw even more than 15,000 new cases. The record high daily number was on January 6 when 17,770 new cases were confirmed.
