The Czech Liberec Region will appeal the Polish approval of the extension of the Turow open pit lignite mine situated near the Czech-Polish border and it is ready to turn to court if the Polish authorities reject the appeal, the region's governor Martin Puta said today. The Polish regional directorate for environment protection in Wroclaw decided last week to approve the planned mine extension within the environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure despite Czech reservations about the plan.
