Czech police report lower number of hate crimes in first half of 2019

August 15th, 2019

The Czech police reported 90 hate crimes in the first half of 2019, eight fewer than during the same period of 2018, most often in the category of supporting and promoting movements that limit fundamental rights and freedoms, the Interior Ministry's extremism report has said. Similarly to last year, the police dealt with the most hate crimes in Prague and the Usti Region, north Bohemia, and managed to solve almost half of them. In the category of hate-motivated acts, the police accused 69 persons, most often of the promotion of a movement, compared to 67 accused in the first half of 2018.
