Czech opposition criticises govt-approved raising of budget deficit

February 16th, 2021

The Czech cabinet has chosen the strategy "after us the deluge" instead of seeking ways to save money, Civic Democrat (ODS) head Petr Fiala told CTK today in reaction to the cabinet's proposal to raise the 2021 state budget gap from the approved 320 billion crowns to 500 billion. The minority government's proposal needs consent of the Chamber of Deputies. The opposition ODS espouses the principles of austerity and budget responsibility, which is why no one can expect it to support the proposed budget increase, Fiala said.
